What makes you happy?

One of my favorite quotes is, “The purpose of our lives is to be happy.” – Dalai Lama.

On the weekend I read a quote on my Facebook newsfeed where a person thought it was silly to think our purpose is to be happy. Instead they believed our purpose should be to stand strong for our beliefs. Unfortunately I cannot properly quote this person as it looks like their post was retracted. At the same time it is probably a good thing so as not to send more energy to the mixed message it was sending.

On the contrary, if the person’s mission in life is to stand up for his or her beliefs, and that mission makes them happy, then they have fulfilled life’s purpose of being happy.

I have nothing against standing for what you believe. However, we do need to realize there may be times where we need to stand down or meet in the middle of the road. Remember to approach life with an open mind and do not be quick to judge others. Each person is entitled to hold their own opinion and their own beliefs. Do not force others to believe what you believe, as each person may have a different idea of what makes them happy in this life.
