How many of you have used or seen “FML” posted on Facebook, Twitter, or a text message? Have you ever actually sat back and thought, does this truly warrant an “FML?” A few weeks ago I went to Yuk Yuk’s comedy club; one of the comedians shed some new light on the whole “FML” situation. He said, “is your life really that messed up. Think of the guy in Africa suffering from a famine and can’t afford any food, let alone a cell phone or computer. All he has is a stick to write in the sand FML.” There are way bigger problems in this world than the fact you broke a nail.
We’ve all had moments in our lives where we feel we are at the bottom of the bottle. When you’re in a rut, focus on the positives around you. A positive could be something as small as a friendly smile, or a hug from a loved one. It could be you spent some quality time with a loved one. Last night I had to take my youngest daughter to the doctor. She’s fine, she simply has an infection that requires some antibiotics. Instead if dwelling on the fact that she has an infection, and the fact that it took several hours of waiting for a quick diagnoses, I enjoyed keeping her entertained. She is also a huge flirt and helped bring smiles to everyone who saw her. And remember, everything is not always about you. I felt frustrated one afternoon when a friend had missed an appointment with me. It turned out she was dealing with a family crisis. Stop being self-centered and egotistical.
When we hit a rough patch in our lives, treat it as a lesson. Stop wallowing in your sorrows and focus your energies into something positive. I like this line from the movie “Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.” “Take a pebble, when you drop a pebble into a pond it creates ripples. Eventually all the ripples reach the edge of the pond.” Let’s use our positive thoughts as the pebble. Each time we have a positive thought, it ripples through the universe. Eventually the positive thought will ripple through the entire universe. When we believe we can achieve it all and send out the positive energies, we can topple mountains. If we choose to wallow in our self-pity we only harm ourselves. Let’s post on our status “MLIF – My Life is Fantastic!” Start enjoying life. It is too short to focus on the bad; instead focus on the good and have no regrets.
