The world needs more compassion.

In today’s society we are so quick to judge. If someone doesn’t behave the way we perceive how they should behave, we condemn them. This is the case in a newly elected MLA in our province. We recently had an election where the ruling party for the past 43 years had been overturned and a new government is taking office. Deborah Drever is one of the representatives of the new governing party. She has recently been publicly ridiculed over some photos posted on her Facebook page and now one of her in an explicit photo appearing on a heavy metal band’s album cover.

Every single one of us is doing the best we can. None of us have it all figured out… Do any of us want to be judged for our mistakes when we’re trying as hard as we can to be our best selves? The world doesn’t need more judgement. We need more compassion… “Don’t judge someone just because they sin differently than you.” When we make compassion a practice, we bless the world. – The Fear Cure, Lissa Rankin, M.D.

Miss Drever should be given a chance to redeem herself. We have not even given her a chance to prove herself as a worthy government official. Everyone at some point in their lives has done something they regret; no matter how big or small.

As Jesus said, “If any one of you is without sin, let him to be the first to throw a stone at her.” – John 8:7

Let’s stop dwelling on the past and move forward into the future. We need to figure out what lesson we need to learn here. Perhaps this is Miss Drever’s chance to stand up and prove to the world that she can be an excellent politician.
