Living the dream

I recently read an article regarding self-esteem of business professionals. This certainly hits home.

My husband and I own a business. Being an entrepreneur has certainly come with it’s own set of challenges. One challenge is being a self-motivator. As an entrepreneur, you do not always have people around to remind you of the great job you’re doing. There can be times when you are working long hours alone. Sometimes, the people we expect to be our greatest cheerleaders are not. It is very humbling when a cheerleader appears out of the blue from the people you least expect.

Being an entrepreneur can certainly be an emotional roller coaster. During the low times, it is important to keep trudging one step in front of the other.

As hard as it may be, you sometimes need to be your own cheerleader. You also need to be accepting of those unexpected cheerleaders.

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

We keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious…and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

People are Afraid

People are afraid. They are afraid of themselves. They are afraid of what they can accomplish. They are afraid of being alone. They are afraid of others. They are afraid of being judged. They are afraid of the unknown.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10

Always remember, this too shall pass.

Shine bright like a diamond

The other day I could tell my daughter was feeling frustrated. She had dance practice and her teachers were harping on her again. I told her to accept the criticism, practice, and then show her dance teachers that she can be a rock star.

I feel in today’s society, we seem to take criticism hard. We are so used to having everyone lie to us that we are all perfect. In sports, each kid now receives a medal or a trophy of some sort for simply participating. Instead, we should embrace the criticism to learn and grow from our mistakes.

Not everyone is gifted. For some of us have to work harder to achieve our dreams. There are dancers who struggled and we criticized that have blossomed into the beautiful swan. Even Michael Jordan had to work hard to become the basketball star he became.

When we have a dream, we need to remember to keep moving forward toward our goals. It’s one foot in front of the other until we reach the finish line. No matter how much we feel like lying down on the ground and want to give up, we must persevere toward the finish line. In one of my last half marathons I ran, I felt like doing just that. I was over the half way marker when my legs felt like they wanted to quit. I had to will myself forward and ended up walking the last 6 km. I ended up with a new personal best on this race.

I leave you with this quote from Rihanna’s Diamonds:

Shine bright like a diamond

Shine bright like a diamond

Find light in the beautiful sea, I choose to be happy

YOLO

I love receiving my messages from the universe. Here’s today’s message.

Some things should just be done for the fun of it.

Not because they are inexpensive, practical, organic, logical, fashionable, modest, brilliant, green, expected, proper, spiritual, thinning, fattening, prudent, or GMO-allergen-smoke-chemical free.

TUT – A Note from the Universe

Sometimes we just need to take the leap and follow our hearts.

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy

In the life of doom and gloom it can be difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

During the holidays, friends of ours invited us to watch Dreamworks, The Trolls. This colourful movie depicits looking at the brighter side of life.

We tend to be way to serious all the time. We need a reminder to hug, sing and dance once in awhile. It’s fun to let loose and be goofy. Dance offs are a regular occurrence in my household. In fact, my eldest daughter chooses to dance everywhere instead of walk. While my youngest is constantly singing.

I’d rather think that (the world) is mostly cupcakes and rainbows than be like you, all grey, all the time. – Dreamworks, The Trolls

Find something each day to put a smile on your face. Be grateful for what you have in front of you.

I’ll leave you with one more quote:

Happiness isn’t something you put inside you. It’s already there. Sometimes you just need someone to help you find it. – Dreamworks, The Trolls

Now and then

memory is a river, one that always runs backward. – The Spy, Paulo Coelho

Ever since I watched Disney’s Alice, Through the Looking Glass,  I have been contemplating time. We are obsessed by it. When we are young, we can’t wait until we grow up. When we are old, we look back and reminisce about time gone by.

We worry about the future and stress about the past. We have a hard time focusing on what is happening right now. We are too busy being busy. We rush from here to there. We hardly stop to smell the proverbial roses. We rarely revel in the present moment.

I notice this when I’m watching my girls dance or at their school plays. Everyone is trying to video their kid performing. Yet how many of those amateur videographers actually enjoyed and remember the performance without going back to the video. I personally find when I try to video something, I’ so absorbed in the videoing, that I forget to enjoy the moment.

Many times we simply let time slip us by. Remember to savour the now and live your life to the fullest.

We need love more than anything!

This is from a blog of mine I posted a few years back.

Imagine there’s no countries, It isn’t hard to do, Nothing to kill or die for, And no religion too, Imagine all the people, Living life in peace.. -John Lennon

We are all one. We are all the same. We all strive to be acknowledged and to be loved.

“If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself, if you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self-transformation.” – Lao Tzu

Lao Tzu puts it so elegantly. Why are we trying to fix those around us when it is us ourselves who are need of fixing. Look deep within yourself for change and watch how the world around you changes as you change yourself.

I noticed this when I returned from maternity leave at work. Certain people had left our group and were replaced by more calming people. After having kids my attitude had changed. I did not feel as stressed, and I had learned that you need to be flexible with your expectations when something out of the ordinary arises.

We teach our children from a young age to love one another and to share; yet as a society we have a difficult time doing that. Let’s set our differences aside and first learn to love ourselves, then portray that same love outwards to the rest of humanity. As the Bible and many other religions say, “Love thy neighbor as you would love yourself.” – Matthew 22:37-39.

The presidential election in the United States has created a whole pot of turmoil. People have become upset over the choice of electors in voting in President-elect Trump. Now I know Trump has made many racist remarks. Yet if we took his campaign slogan, Let’s Make America Great Again,  we can turn this around to promote peace and love.

Now I’m not an American, however, my viewpoint of making America great should involve a coming together instead of pushing more further apart than ever before. We are all human. We may look different on the outside, yet we are all the same on the inside. We all bleed the same. We all want to love and be loved. All of humanity has the same basic instincts of survival. Making America great should involve setting our differences aside to come to build the country people see in their dreams. Take time to learn something about your neighbor. If you have a new neighbor, bring over a plate of cookies and introduce yourself. People do have a good side to them. Stop thinking that everyone is out to get you.

I pray for my American friends that they may find peace and love.
