Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible. – Dalai Lama
It is very important to generate a good attitude, a good heart, as much as possible. From this happiness in both the short term and long term for both yourself and others will come. – Dalai Lama
The purpose of our lives is to be happy. – Dalai Lama
I don’t know whether the universe, with its countless galaxies, stars, and planets, has a deeper meaning or not, but at the very least, it is clear that we humans who live on this earth face the task of making a happy life for ourselves. Therefore, it is important to discover what will bring about the greatest degree of happiness. – Insight from the Dalai Lama
Go out and find your happiness this weekend! Happy Friday!
I was really touched by a story I read on Facebook yesterday about the group of Mormon missionaries who while helping clean up some of the devastation from hurricane Sandy found an old safe in a pile of rubble at a person’s house. The owner said to throw it in the trash, yet curiosity got the better of the missionaries. They were able to pry the safe open and found a couple of envelopes with nearly $25,000 cash inside. Being the good Mormons they are, they returned the cash to owner who then offered to give them the money. Of course they refused.
Only a spontaneous feeling of empathy with others can really inspire us to act on their behalf. Nevertheless, compassion does not arise mechanically. Such a sincere feeling must grow gradually, cultivated within each individual, based on their own conviction of its worth. Adopting a kind attitude thus becomes a personal matter. How each of us behaves in daily life is, after all, the real test of compassion. – Insight from the Dalai Lama
During this time of year we are bombarded by stories of compassion, giving and miracles. We are reminded to give to those in need, yet this message is often forgotten the rest of the year.
Lets show compassion and be an angel every day of the year, not just the 25 days before Christmas!
Another good insight from the Dalai Lama to share today.
As long as we live in this world, we are bound to encounter problems. If, at such times, we lose hope and become discouraged, we diminish our ability to face difficulties. If, on the other hand, we remember that it is not just ourselves but also everyone who has to undergo suffering, this more realistic perspective will increase our determination and capacity to overcome troubles. – Insight from the Dalai Lama
This is another wonderful quote, and one that suits my life right now. It is so easy to get trapped in having a pity party for yourself when things don’t go the way you expected them to go. The mind can easily twist and warp our perceptions into making situations seem far worse than they truly are. Remember you are not alone on your quest, and it is not always about you. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, we simply need to keep moving forward.
When attachment starts to develop, try to find negative qualities in the object of your desire. – Insight from the Dalai Lama
